From the very beginning of Emily's eye troubles, we've been told that she will be needing surgery. It is a very standard procedure in the case of lazy eyes. Emily is scheduled to have surgery on both eyes; Thursday the 21st of February. We very much had hoped to avoid it, but it is simply not possible. Without her glasses on, her eyes turn in with very little muscle control for Emi. With them on, her eyes are stronger but still have a tendency to turn in. The surgery will consist of the Doctor sniping that inner eye muscle in order for her brain to get the extra help it needs with the glasses to straighten her eyes out. To sort of help her brain retrain if you will. She will be given general anesthesia and the surgery will last about 90 minutes. She is scared, but she is so very brave at the same time. She knows it's coming and is aware of what's involved, but she also understands that she will be asleep for it and should not have any pain. We met with her Doctor just this week to go over everything and she was asking him questions herself. He was very impressed with her. Quite frankly so are we. This is a lot to ask of a small child who is so aware of what's going on around her, yet she is prepared and ready to do this. We would appreciate any and all prayers for our little trooper and of course, we will keep you posted.
